What is the Biomatrix Art in Science Gallery?

We use artistic expression in different ways to create a more intuitive understanding through pictures, metaphors and analogies of Biomatrix Theory and Methodology and their application to real life problems. Please visit our exhibitions in the Links below.

History of the Gallery

The Biomatrix Art in Science Gallery was conceptualised by Elisabeth Dostal based on her interest in the relationship of especially the visual arts, science and consciousness.

It developed through the inspiration from different contributors:

  • Fritz Goffitzer shared his understanding of laws of aesthetics.

  • Linda Muller added her understanding of the laws of music, science and consciousness.

  • Anacreon Cloete invented the Biomatrix Graphic Alphabet and Ryan Daynes designed it.

  • Hagar Graiser proposed surrealism as a suitable means for illustrating complex systemic concepts and their quality of emergence beyond what can be explained in words. She also invented the Postcards from the Future as a social networking strategy and inspired and co-produced the Cartoon Curriculum (which was further developed by J.L and R.L)

  • Elisabeth and Hagar prototyped the use of pictures in jamming, thereby giving rise to Biomatrix Art Jamming.

  • Maciej Soltynski suggested the inclusion of pictures for making our education videos more interesting.

  • David Jicha built our online gallery and first webpage iteration. Juanique designed the current version with greater emphasis on aesthetics.

Why an Art in Science Gallery?

“A picture is worth a thousand words” (FR Barnard). By arousing emotions, pictures can become powerful motivators for social change

Art (i.e. pursuit of beauty) fascinates the emotions and the intuitive mind, while science (i.e. pursuit of truth) speaks to the rational mind. Art shows us patterns which the rational and linear mind cannot grasp. It can take us to places which the rational mind cannot reach, while science grounds the flights of imagination in theoretical understanding and practical application.

The enthusiasm of many MBA students for the enhanced understanding of Biomatrix Systems Theory and Methodology through a graphic depiction, as well as the (to us as scientists) unexpected recognition in the music industry of Biomatrix ArtJamming as a method for inspiring social change. This reinforces our belief that art can contribute to changing people’s worldview and encourage them in transforming their social systems.
