Biomatrix Education Program
The Biomatrix Education Program provides knowledge of the Biomatrix Theory and Methodology for the w/holistic (re)design and transformation of systems (e.g. a personal, organisational, societal, or planetary function as a continuing supply chain, or a whole person, organisation, society or planet) and the (dis)solving of their complex problems.

It is an ACTION LEARNING PROGRAM, in which learners are guided to apply the knowledge to their selected case study should initially be a functional system. It could be a personal system (e.g. their work, parenting, socialising, exercising, health creating, or any other personal function), or it could be a system of which they are part (i.e. a containing system), such as the organisational function of which they are part. In the case of a containing system, the learner will either work with others in a team setting, or use a questionnaire to get input from the other parts of the system.

By working in teams, the shared system can be redesigned and its problems dissolved, once the design is implemented. For example, a corporate academy, or a school of societal governance (i.e. a government academy) can use the Biomatrix Education Program to transform the organisation or government department. In fact, as management consultants we have found education-driven change interventions as being the most creative in designing sustainable change, as well as being the most successful ones in implementing the designed change.

Having created an ideal design, the learners enrol widening stakeholder circles in commenting on, and participating in the collectively proposed change. The program is divided into six modules. Each module consists of video lectures, and a manual which includes generic exercise templates:
-
Module 1: Introduction to Systems Thinking
-
Module 2: Steps in System (Re)Design and Complex Problem (Dis)Solving
-
Module 3: Ideal Activity / Functional System (Re)Design
-
Module 4: Ideal Entity / Organismic System (Re)Design
-
Module 5: Impact Assessment and Implementation Planning
-
Module 6: W/Holistic Change Management

Although each module could be viewed as a course on its own, there will be some conceptual understanding required from other modules. The reason for this is that systems thinking is not a linear body of knowledge (i.e. in which knowledge builds on previous knowledge), but that one can understand each concept only fully, if one understands the other concepts. This requires iterative learning. The modules can be applied as follows:

-
Since the underlying worldview of the program is w/holistic thinking, the theoretical and conceptual knowledge of module1 is required as a foundation for all application. (We therefore suggest that you at least view the video of this module before getting involved in any system analysis and redesign.)
-
To (re)design an ACTIVITY SYSTEM (such as a personal, organisational or societal function, a project, business process, or value / supply chain) the knowledge of module 2 (for the steps of the methodology and their explanation) and module 3 (for the generic framework and organising principles of an activity system design) are required.
-
To (re)design an ENTITY SYSTEM (or organismic system such as a private or public sector organisation, government department, NGO or public / private partnership) the knowledge of module 2 (for the steps of the methodology and their explanation) and module 4 (for the generic framework and organising principles of an entity system design) are required.
-
To asses the impact and plan the implementation of any design is discussed in module 5.
-
To manage the different steps of a change intervention and facilitate participation requires the knowledge of module 6.
-
The application of the program in the context of redesigning large systems (e.g. an education, health-care, electricity or any other public sector system) can involve BiomatrixJamming which involves the public participation in identifying and analysing the problems of a system and the collecting of existing and brainstorming of new solutions through the online application of a questionnaire. The according knowledge and questionnaire are provided in module 2.
-
To integrate the brainstorming output from the jam into an ideal design (or alternative design options) can involve Biomatrix Design Conferencing. This allows public participation in the creation of the actual (re)design(s) based on the knowledge provided by module 3 (in the case of an industry, supply chain, large-scale project or other activity system), or module 4 (in the case of an entity system, such as a university, hospital, government department, or other large public or private sector organisation).
