module 2

Steps in System (Re)Design and Complex Problem Solving

The module on Systemic Problem (Dis)Solving explains the theoretical difference between problem solving and problem dissolving and outlines a step by step methodology of dissolving complex (i.e: systemic ) problems through ideal system (re)design.

Learners are also introduced to a brainstorming method that enhances creativity, solutions orientation and higher order thinking. This brainstorming method is also the foundation of the Biomatrix Jamming Programme which allows the stakeholders of a system to participate online in collecting existing solutions and brainstorming new ones for the redesign of their shared system.

The module is also useful for making leaders more creative and skilled in problems (dis)solving and facilitating a solutions orientation in others.

The purpose of the module is to:

  • create an understanding of the nature of systemic problems as compared to inherent problems

  • generate understanding of the difference between problem solving and dissolving

  • generate skills in systemic problem (dis)solving

  • help (dis)solve functional problems i.e: personal, organisational, society and planetary)

  • make you more innovative and creative

  • generate innovative ideas relating to your case study.
